We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to our Scouting families who have helped us make fantastic donations of almost half a ton of items to local charities.

Instead of our usual “Soup-n-Santa” event which raises funds for our own scout group, families were asked to give to others by donating to AberNecessities – a local charity that looks to ensure that #NoChildGoesWithout,  and / or to local food banks.

We were absolutely thrilled and overwhelmed by the generosity of our scouting families.

AberNeccessities was appealing for specific items to go into Christmas Eve boxes such as pyjamas, socks, nappies, wipes, underwear, festive storybooks, hot chocolate and mugs, and selection boxes.

Two car loads of these goods (weighing just over 80kg) were delivered to their Dyce sorting depot.  It certainly was sobering to hear first hand about the dire poverty in the North East area.

On the food bank side, we were thrilled to pass on 192kg of tins and pasta to the Aberdeenshire North -Trussell Foodbank and 150kg of items to the Westhill Foodbank at the Westhill Community Church.

The Aberdeenshire North -Trussell Foodbank wrote: “Your donations make a huge difference to the Foodbank which helps local families and individuals in need.   Your contribution will help our clients through this difficult time.”

The Westhill Foodbank said: “ A Huge thank you to the Westhill Scouts for the abundance of donations. God bless you as you have blessed many folk.”

These donations will be added to others from Scout Groups across North East region, where there is a target of 10 tonnes to “Fill-Our-Foodbanks”.  Our 420 kgs is a massive part towards that.

It will be a different Christmas for us all, but hopefully with the support of these charities, it will be less difficult for some. Thank you once again to our scouting families for their valuable donations.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
