UK Scouting believes in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more. Here in Westhill we are extremely proud that each week, we help around 170 young people aged 6-18 enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.

During March a number of our Westhill youngsters (and an adult leader) performed on stage at the Aberdeen Arts Centre as part of the Aberdeen Scouts Gang Show. It was a terrific show, with six performances, and each person thoroughly enjoyed their gang show experience.

At the start of the Easter holidays there was a hive of activity at the Scout hut for the group’s ‘Repair, Clean and Paint’ weekend.

Jobs carried out included repairing and painting of the outside boundary fence, railings were painted, woodwork was painted and grass areas were edged and re-seeded as well as a number of improvements to inside the building. It was good to see so many young people involved, taking responsibility for the hall they use each week.

Westwood Scout Troop recently designed and built a wonderful bug hotel which is located on the west side of the Westhill Scout Hut. The Scouts dug out the area first then built up the hotel using a variety of materials. It certainly looks cosy. If you are passing have a look and see who has checked in!

Our young people are looking forward to a couple of forthcoming camps. The Highland Adventure Camp at the start of May will be held in Brechin and will see over 700 scouts from across Scotland taking part in a range of different activities, such as raft building, mystery tour and geocaching.

Later in May a significant number of our Westhill group will be attending ‘The Gordon Gathering’. This is a biennial camp organised by The Gordon District Scouts to bring together all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers in the area. Beavers will go for the Saturday whilst all other groups will camp for the weekend and enjoy a wide range of activities. Everyone is getting very excited about it.

In June we will have a refreshments stand at the Westhill Gala. If you are interested in volunteering within scouting or have a young person interested in joining feel free to come and say hello to us. We will also have pancakes and popcorn for sale! Otherwise pleased contact us as per the addresses below.
