Beechwood Scouts create meadow sofa at North East castle

Date: 24th Feb 2020 Author: Jane THOMSON

Well done to members of Beechwood Scouts, who recently braved the wind and snow to build a Meadow Chair at Castle Fraser.

This project provided an ideal opportunity for the scouts to complete a couple of the most difficult aspects of the World Challenge badge (Environmental Project and Volunteering) as well as other aspects of Outdoor Challenge, Conservation badges etc.

It also enabled the troop to put something back to the local community and for participants to gain their Community Impact Staged badge.

Although an early and cold start to the day, everyone enjoyed getting stuck in. The scouts started by clearing/raking the area to build the sofa, building up the soil and shaping the sofa plus planting seeds for use later in the year in the meadow. The sofa will be turfed and should make for a nice comfy seat in the summer!

Thank you to the National Trust for Scotland’s North East Ranger Service for setting and overseeing the project.
