First post-lockdown cub camp!

Date: 21st Sep 2021 Author: Jane THOMSON

This weekend saw the first Westhill scouting camp in two years, with youngsters enjoying a night away.

Twenty one cubs from our Shere Khan and Bagheera cub packs joined together for a one night camp at Lochter Activity Centre near Oldmeldrum.

Cubs using the climbing wallThe cubs enjoyed fishing, segways, water zorbing, buggy driving, climbing wall, games, campfire and had lots of fun.

It was great to get back to camping (with Covid measures in place).

For many of the youngsters it was their first experience of camping or being away from home and was a huge step in developing their confidence and with a little bit of reassurance here and there, they did brilliantly.

Thanks to the parents who helped to put the tents up on Saturday….hopefully you learned something….it will be easier next time.

The event was made possible due to the time invested by our adult volunteers (uniformed and non uniformed) who organised and supervised the youngsters.

We are currently looking to recruit more adult volunteers to our group. Could you help?

We are looking for people to undertake a range of tasks from hall bookings, to book keeping, gift-aid coordinator, gardener and maintaining badge records. We are also keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping out at any of our sections as a Section Assistant, Assistant Leader or Leader.

If you would be interested in finding out more please email Chris at or Bruce at

Our AGM is next Tuesday (28 Sept) at 7.30pm on zoom. If you would like to join the meeting and learn more about 1st Westhill Scout Group, please email for meeting details.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
