Westhill Scout Group’s VACANCY BOARD

Westhill Scout Group provides scouting activities and #SkillsFor Life for approximately 140 young people within the community, aged from 6 to 18 years. Through badge work activities the group looks to increase the resilience, confidence and adaptability of young people through learning new skills and learning about the world around them.

As the demands for scouting increases there is a need to recruit a number of volunteers. Can you help?

The group has a variety of roles requiring to be filled and previous scouting experience is not essential. They are:

Trustees – The board of trustees meets four times a year and its purpose is to ensure that as a charity, Westhill Scout Group is run safely and legally. The focus is strategy, governance and financial matters. The group already has a Chairperson, secretary and treasurer but they do need additional trustees to help make decisions. Could you help? If so please see the following page on their website which details more about this type of role.

Project Safety Advisor – The group has recently received funding to improve the sustainability of the scout building. The current trustees are keen to identify a Project Safety Adviser for approx. 3-4 months to provide assistance and advice on risk assessments, HSE guidelines etc. The group would be very grateful to hear from anyone with this specialist skill base.

Support Team Committee – As the new Board of Trustees will focus on the charitable status of Westhill Scout Group, a new committee is to be created that will focus on the operational side of running the Scout hall/scout group. This will include hall lets, scouting equipment, hall maintenance etc. This committee would meet four times a year.

Team members / leaders – Were you a cub or scout growing up, or have family members benefited from scouting? Scouting provides a lot of benefits to young people and we could offer more spaces to young people if there were more adult volunteers. If you have an interest in developing young people’s skills through fun and practical activities, we can offer starter roles that will see you assist our existing teams. You don’t have to volunteer each week and at it’s very basic it can be helping young people with crafting activities, helping with pioneering projects, organising adventurous activities such as laser tag or mountain biking and helping to supervise young people as they do badge activities. Volunteering with a section can be very rewarding especially seeing the development and growth in young people.

If volunteering in any of these roles with Westhill Scout Group is of interest, please email the Group Lead Volunteer for an informal discussion at gsl@1stwesthillscouts.co.uk .
